Title: Balancing Productivity & Pastoral Care
Overview and Objectives
Rev. Gayle Simmons, M.Div. from the Ohio’s Hospice South Region, will look at the quality of spiritual care at the end of life, which focuses on soul listening, identifying spiritual distress, and implementing the plan of care. Rev. Marla K. Flewellen M.Div., BCC from Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center will explore the challenges of productivity metrics as a bedside chaplain with beyond bedside responsibilities. She will also explore the opportunities for developing and maintaining the balance of productivity and spiritual care with each patient.

Title of Event: Creating Caring Communities through Bikkur Holim

This free self-paced online course is suitable for individuals and groups. It offers the opportunity to engage with carefully selected resources and texts from both the Jewish tradition and contemporary approaches to caring for individuals and communities in need. Featuring case scenarios and role play exercises, this program also offers opportunities to build critical listening skills and participate in guided reflection. Participants will gain knowledge of Jewish language, tradition and values related to bikkur holim, including its spiritual, psychological and communal basis. Acquire competence in providing bikkur holim and confidence to serve as leaders of effective and sustainable congregation-based bikkur holim committees.
