This chaplain will be joining a strong team that highly values collaboration, mutual support, and shared learning as we grow in our practice of spiritual care. We will accept candidates who meet the standards for either the Chaplain II or Chaplain Masters role. Specific requirements and salary ranges can be found below.

Our chaplains provide comprehensive spiritual care for patients, families, and staff. Their responsibilities include: spiritual assessment, spiritual and emotional support, the provision or coordination of rituals, prayers, and other forms of spiritual engagement, grief facilitation and end of life care, and advocacy. They document their care in the medical record and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team; this includes taking part in care rounds. They participate in family care conferences and Advance Care Planning conversations, and facilitate Health Care Directives. Our chaplains are also actively engaged in staff support, providing emotional first aid to individuals and groups after critical incidents, and playing a strong and trusted role in unit life. Chaplains serve as mentors to CPE students, and may be asked to provide didactics for CPE groups. Finally, they participate in committees, department projects, and educational opportunities.

Manages and coordinates pastoral care, counseling, and religious services for patients, their families and staff including, sacramental ministry, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing and coordinating bereavement needs.

Supervises chaplains and mentors CPE student chaplains as they provide assessment and support to palliative care patients in accordance with joint commission requirements.

Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering pastoral support and counseling to patients and families.

Serves as department representative to facility President or other managers.

Coordinates and provides consultation to physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and ancillary staff as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team to meet patient needs and to improve patient care.

Conducts investigative studies to advance knowledge and to develop ways and means for providing more effective religious ministry for patients, family and staff.

Develops relationships with local churches, community agencies and service organizations which supports the Baylor Scott & White Health community. Recruits, trains, and coordinates pastoral care volunteers.

Develops and maintains procedures for keeping records of spiritual counseling for patients.

Oversees, staff, and volunteers and provides clinical supervision at the level specified upon consults.

Consults with staff as needed; partners and reports to Senior Pastoral Care Leaders.

Description:

The staff chaplain will provide pastoral ministry in a manner which exemplifies the philosophy, mission and values of the pastoral care department at Baptist Health South Florida, acting as worship and sacramental leader, counselor, advocate-mediator, educator, and spiritual guide. The staff chaplain will maintain his/her relationship with the endorsing religious denomination current and in good standing at all times while employed at Baptist Health South Florida. The staff chaplain will assist the Director of Pastoral Care in the implementation of all programming, policies and procedures, as outlined by the Department’s Policies and Procedures Manual. As the religious representative before the Hospital and related communities, the staff chaplain will be held accountable to the highest level of professional ethics and moral conduct. Estimated salary range for this position is $52740.06 – $68562.08 / year depending on experience.

Overview

The Spiritual Care Services department is made up of four service lines: Chaplaincy, Chaplaincy Education, Palliative Care Consult Services and Ethics Committee support. Provides direct supervision of ACPE Chaplain Residents, Externs and Interns who provide spiritual care to patients, families and staff (75%) along with Clinical Pastoral Education training (25%). Serves as a member of the Spiritual Care Department Leadership Team. Contributes to the overall operations of Spiritual Care Services while Coordinating all aspects of hospital ACPE program.

Responsibilities

Provides direct spiritual care to patients and families.
Provides consultation to other members of the care team regarding spiritual issues and resources in patient and family care and regarding ethics.
Implements and participates in hospital wide improvement of quality care processes and services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities

Manage the daily operations of the Spiritual Care Services on site Monday – Friday
Maintain Spiritual Care Policies and Procedures in coordination with leadership.
Provide spiritual comfort to clinical associates/providers, patients, and families by visiting patients on a regular basis offering pastoral counseling, religious rituals, and referrals to community religious resources as requested.
Coordinate the CPE program and supervise CPE interns, volunteers and residents.
Maintains adherence to standards for accreditation of CPE program.
Manage the fiscal resources in the department in coordination with leadership.
Hold membership on the NCH Delaware Ethics Committee and participate in ethical consults as requested.
