The chaplain provides emotional support, spiritual counsel and comfort in addressing the spiritual needs of patients as assigned. This individual provides a spiritual perspective when consulting with Mayo Clinic staff, patients and families regarding ethical, moral or personal issues. The chaplain is skilled in crisis and bereavement counseling and is an active participant in the interdisciplinary patient care team. This individual promotes a healing environment enhancing spiritual and emotional health for both patients and staff. Participates in teamwork with other members of the department, including providing unit and on-call coverage. The chaplain’s duties include providing/arranging sacraments/rituals from many faith traditions of patients, relatives and staff as requested. The chaplain works cooperatively with other members of the Spiritual Care Department in planning and providing a total program of spiritual care. Serves on committees/task forces within the department, hospital and/or enterprise. Supports and participates in the educational programs of the department. In addition, the chaplain supports leadership through activities that includes development of staff, teaching, staff care, critical incident stress management, community involvement, and participation in research as appropriate. Must be available to work flexible hours which can include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends with on-call required. Assists in orienting new personnel to the department. Prepares and maintains records for assigned areas. Documents patient care encounters in the medical record. Records work tasks in direct patient care within EPIC to document productivity. This individual must demonstrate humility in regards of ones cultures and working knowledge of other cultures. Awareness and knowledge of principles of human development across the lifespan. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient’s age-specific needs is required. Hospice chaplains and those with multiple work locations also travel to provide spiritual support in facilities or patients’ residences. May require being an Independent Living Donor Advocate (ILDA) upon completion of training. Other chaplain roles in the enterprise also include advance care planning.

The Spiritual Care Manager (SCM) oversees the delivery of effective Spiritual Care services, manages and coaches the chaplains across the continuum of care within a local community. The Spiritual Care Manager participates directly in the provision of Spiritual Care in proportion to the time available. The Spiritual Care Manager reports to the Director of Spiritual Care within an Administrative Service Area, with a matrixed reporting relationship to the Local Mission Leader. Chaplains within the local community report directly to the Spiritual Care Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Exercises leadership over Spiritual Care activities and colleagues across the care continuum of a local community, by managing operations and overseeing the implementation of best practices in alignment with Trinity Health strategy. Models the skills of an effective chaplain in providing Spiritual Care services. Hires, manages, and provides coaching, mentoring and performance management to all chaplains within the local community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) via one of the following licensing groups: APC, CASC, NACC, or NAJC, including completion of a Master of Divinity or an equivalent degree from an Association of Theological School accredited seminary or divinity school along with completion of 4 units (1600 hours) of ACPE Spiritual Care. Job Description |
Baylor Scott & White, Hillcrest (Texas) has an immediate opening for a Manager of Pastoral Services. Our next Manager will report to the Director of Pastoral Services and Clinical Pastoral Education in Central Texas, as well as serving as department representative to facility President or other leaders. The Manager of Pastoral Services will have the following responsibilities and attributes: – Set the vision for and the management of the Department of Pastoral Services at Baylor Scott & White Health – Hillcrest (BSW – Hillcrest) – Monitor and facilitate the date-to-day operations of the Pastoral Care Department, chaplaincy staff and pastoral volunteers, ensuring the provision of spiritual and emotional care, religious, sacramental, moral and ethical needs of patients and employees and physicians of the hospital. – Facilitate strong relationships within the greater Waco community, including community agencies and service organizations, local faith communities, Baylor University’s Truett Seminary and their students who are enrolled in the Central Texas CPE program at Temple, and who do their clinical work at BSW – Hillcrest. – Recruit, train, and coordinate pastoral care volunteers. – Oversee and supervise staff chaplains, PRNs and pastoral volunteers and mentor CPE student chaplains as they provide assessment and support for patients in accordance with joint commission requirements. – Actively participate as a member of a professional therapeutic team and provide spiritual care and counseling to patients and families. – Coordinate and provide consultation to physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and ancillary staff as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team to meet patient needs and to strengthen patient care. – Evaluate and recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that positively affect the managed organization. – Conduct investigative studies to advance knowledge and to develop ways and means for providing more effective religious ministry for patients, family and staff. |
Job Requirements |
Key Success Factors for the Candidate – Requirements, Skills and Abilities – Master’s degree (M.Div., preferred) – A unit of CPE. (Four (4) units of CPE, preferred) – Board Certification as a Professional Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains or one of its organization partners who endorse the Standards of Practice for Chaplaincy, preferred – 2+ years of managerial experience, preferred – Administrative experience with budget management, recruiting, hiring and coaching full-time and part-time staff and mentoring CPE students, preferred – Clinical Ethics experience, preferred – Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) – The ability to minister to all faiths and those of none. – The ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with co-workers, health professionals, volunteers, community clergy and the general public. – The ability to use broader objectives in determining how best to use resources to meet schedules and goals. – The ability to make and approve effective hiring and termination decisions. – General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and |
